A flower vase without bottom!

Finlandia vase has been designed by Pekka Piekäinen in 1997 and its design is protected by PlatinOro. The shape of the vase in unique in a sense that it is narrow from its base, but opens up in every direction - flowers set in it nicely. The vase does not fall down because its S-shape. It used to be manufactured only in silver. 2017 is the anniversary of Finland's 100 years of indepence, which is why we decided to start manufacturing it also in steel. The vase is handmade in northern Finland in a city called Oulu and the material comes from the nearby Tornio steel blast furnice. Therefore the vase is 100% made in Finland from finnish materials. 

There is a funny store behind the idea. It was a beautiful summer day in a summer house in Perniö Southern Finland and mr Piekäinen was lying on the field, like he used do occasionally. Suddenly the idea came into his mind, just like somebody had just turned the lights on. He stood up and said "now we are going to create a vase with no bottom at all". He was trying to explain his idea and draw it on paper, but a shape like that could not be drawn so easily. So he stood up and grapped a chainsaw and sawed the shape on a stump. There it was, the vase with no bottom was born.
